As part of the protection of children against fatal diseases in infancy such as rubella-measles, polyo etc. the State of Senegal has established a vaccination schedule for children from birth to the threshold of majority with the appropriate vaccine for each age.
- At birth
The child receives a vaccine containing BCG, VPO, HepB against the following diseases: Tuberculosis, Polyomyelitis, Hepatitis B.
- At 1 month and a half
A Penta 1, Pneumo 1, OPV, Rota vaccine, against Diphtheria, tetanus, Hepatitis B, HIB infection (Haemophilus influenzae b), pneumococcal infections, polyo, rota virus diarrhea.
- 2 and a half months
The child takes a vaccine with Penta 2, Pneumo 2, OPV 2, Rota 2 against Diphtheria, tetanus, Hepatitis B, HIB infection (Haemophilus influenzae b), pneumococcal infections, polyo, rotavirus diarrhea.
- 3 months and a half
A Penta 3 Pneumo 3, OPV 3, Rota 3 vaccine is given to the baby against Diphtheria, tetanus, Hepatitis B, HIB infection (Haemophilus influenzae b), pneumococcal infections, polyo.
- 5 months
Invasive serogroup C meningococcal infections: 1st dose
- 9 months
Measles-Rubella (RR) vaccine + VAA to prevent measles and yellow fever.
- Between 16 and 18 months
The child receives a reminder against, Mumps, Rubella Measles-Rubella.
- 6 years
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Poliomyelitis: 2nd reminder
- Between 11 and 13 years old
Against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Poliomyelitis
Along with this booster comes a vaccine containing reduced doses of diphtheria toxoid and pertussis antigen.
- Between 11 and 14 YEARS
Vaccine against human papillomavirus infections, taken in 2 doses spaced 6 months apart, for girls and boys.
Catch-up is planned between the ages of 15 and 19 for people of both sexes who have not yet been vaccinated.
- Up to the age of 15
Hepatitis B vaccine
Is provided as a catch-up, for adolescents aged 11 to 15 years old, who have not yet been vaccinated
Editor's note: Between the vaccines at 6th month and at 12th month the child receives vitamin A.
It should also be remembered that the vaccination schedule is introduced the EPI (Expanded Vaccination Program) since November 2013 with the launch of the combined Measles-Rubella (RR) vaccine where it replaces the VAR, Anti-Measles Vaccine.
The EPI includes several types of vaccine and has been implemented by the Ministry of Health through the Department of Prevention in the 14 regions and 76 health districts present in the country.
The supply chain is ensured by each vaccination point (health center or post) which identifies the needs of its target population and informs the health district team which, in turn, transmits the information to the Prevention Department. .
