Listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, the island of Gorée is located about 3-4km from Dakar, or 20 minutes by boat.
An essential place in the history of the slave trade, this island saw thousands of blacks deported to America on a journey of no return.
When we talk about Gorée we think first house of slaves built in the 1700s, up to 200 male, female and child slaves chained like cattle in cramped cells to then be sold, exchanged for worthless objects such as mirrors, fabric, junk! Rich in history, charged with emotion, with its emblematic door of no return, this place is a MUST-SEE on this island! It is accessible from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the price of 500f/adult. Be careful though, she stays closed on Mondays.
the castle hill overlooking Gorée offers a magnificent view of the island with the remains of the cannons with a range of 14 km which allowed France to sink an English boat on September 23, 1940, the memorial of Goree–almadia 1999, the churchSaint Charles Borromeo rebuilt in 1830 after its destruction by the soldiers of the English army giving birth to the first church in Senegal, but also the mosque of gore the oldest in the country. Museum historical of Goree 1989 located in the Fort d'Estrées (19th century) has 13 rooms housing 500 objects for a visit taxed at 500f/adult are all places to visit.
Apart from that why not just relax by the beach enjoying the sun, a swim and many restaurants on the island. Or simply walk the narrow streets admiring the architecture of the houses and their colors reminiscent of the colonial era.
