Senegalese manufacturers of decorative arts

The Senegalese Manufactures of Decorative Arts in Thiès have woven many wall tapestries, of varying sizes, entirely handmade and of which the print run is limited. The place is open every day except weekends. It was established on the initiative of President Léopold Sedar Senghor in 1996. The choice of works to be reproduced in tapestry is made following a call for tenders. Those that are selected are purchased with reproduction rights up to eight copies. If necessary after reproduction of this number allowed, it is possible to negotiate with the artist, only for two other additional copies at most. These tapestries, which are luxury products, are the result of the expertise of talented Senegalese visual artists and tapestry specialists. The pioneers of the house are a group of four young painting graduates from the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar. The Senegalese Manufactures of Decorative Arts have always remained open to the general public through on-site guided tours, the opening of a website constitutes added value for the promotion and marketing of products.
