Boribana Museum Dakar

The museum bears a symbolic name, like "earth and water", a sign of fertility. BORIBANA precisely means in the Mandinka language “the race is over. It is located on the road to Léopold Sedar Senghor airport in Dakar, opposite Shell NGOR station. Created in 1998, it was ceded to the State of Senegal on December 12, 2014 to be part of the Senegalese cultural heritage. Visits are made on request from Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is 1000 frs and free every Wednesday. Open since 2000, this museum brings together the works of contemporary painters from the African diaspora, in particular African-Americans, and carries a universal dimension through the diversity of the artistic works presented there. A permanent exhibition brings together paintings and masterful sculptures. In the garden, you can admire several ancient African statues and architecture in the form of a grand piano. It has a large exhibition hall, a library, a reserve of three (3) studios serving as accommodation for artists and a film projection space. The museum participates in the development of black culture for its openness to the Senegalese people, African in general and to the whole world.
